“The Saa-Taa-Naa-Maa (Kirtan Kriya) meditation is the
basic fundamental meditation
which cuts through everything.”

–Yogi Bhajan

What does Kirtan Kriya cut through? It cuts through anything that is not aligned with our Truth. It cuts through anything that is not supporting our fullest potential - our mental health, emotional equilibrium, physical vitality, creative happiness and deep, lasting fulfillment. In yogic language, we ascribe those limiting beliefs and habits to the ego. Ego believes in the finite, and makes decisions based on that. The Soul knows its true nature is infinite, and makes decisions based on that. Kirtan Kriya cuts through the ego so our infinite clarity can be our foundation.

Kirtan Kriya brings peace, relaxation, and balance. It works holistically on all levels of consciousness. When we dedicate ourselves to a regular practice of this Kriya, we see how much we can change and how incredible a tool it is for healing and growth.

Other spoken benefits: changes addictive patterns and unhealthy habits, solidifies & supports any positive work you are doing for yourself, clears your energy field of negativity and trauma, strengthens the frontal lobe so you are less emotionally reactive, tunes the glandular system so brain and body chemistry are harmonious, promotes serenity…and much more.

Modern science performed a study of this ancient yogic practice, finding that Kirtan Kriya improves brain function - particularly memory. See below for links to the articles and more information about Kirtan Kriya.

“This Kriya is one of the three that Yogi Bhajan mentioned would carry us through the Aquarian Age, even if all other teachings were lost.

Practicing this meditation brings a total mental balance to the individual psyche. The mudras cause a balance in the electro-magnetic projection of the aura.

Practicing this meditation is both a science and an art. It is an art in the way it molds consciousness and the refinement of sensation and insight it produces. It is a science in the tested certainty of the results it produces. This meditation is based on the tested experience of many people, in many conditions, over many years. It is based on the structure of the psyche and the laws of action and reaction that accompany each sound, movement and posture. Chanting the Panj Shabd – the primal or nuclear form of Sat Nam – has profound energy within it because we are breaking the bij (seed or atom) of the sound into its primary elements.”

“After eight weeks, brain scans revealed that the people showed increased blood flow in brain areas crucial to memory. Also, tests of verbal fluency, logical memory and other skills showed significant improvement according to the researchers, who reported their results in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.

A comparison group of five people with memory problems who listened to Mozart violin concertos for 12 minutes a day showed no such improvements.

"Anyone can do this," said Dharma Singh Khalsa, M.D., one of the lead authors of the article and the medical director of the Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation in Tucson, Ariz. "The people in the study had no experience with meditation, and yet by activating their brain with 12 minutes of meditation a day, they were able to improve their cognition and mental function. It really made their brain healthier.””
